Guide to Action

  1. Implementation of Equality Laws. All of the nations in which the representation of women approaches the closest to proportionality have implemented some sort of law which requires the equal representation of women in their legislatures.
  2. Increased Scrutiny on the Media’s Coverage of Female Politicians.
  3. Better Education. From a very early age, children must be taught in a firm and consistent way that women can and are able to serve in key leadership roles.
  4. The Empowerment of Women Under Repressive Regimes and Belief Systems. Millions of women around the world live under (often brutally) repressive regimes and beliefs systems which limit their ability to function as a normal human being, let along actively engage in political life. In Saudi Arabia, for example, women are not allowed to leave their homes without being accompanied by a male relative, vote, or drive. The elimination of these types of regimes and the belief systems that affirm them is key to the increased representation of women in politics and government.
  5. Encouragement of the Involvement of Women in Political and Government Life. Through the use of government leadership programs, internships, and scholarships directed towards women, women shall be encouraged to get active in the political and governmental arenas.
  6. Increased Selection of Women as Candidates by Political Parties. In many countries across the world, Political Party Leaders hold immense power in the choosing of political candidates for their parties. These leaders should actively seek out highly qualified and competent women to serve as candidates for political office.
  1. This is an excellent blog, and the topic is one that I really care about as well, and something I feel is very important. This list clearly demonstrates women’s inequality in the world, something that not enough people realize or appreciate. It’s hard to even focus on one aspect of women’s rights when there’s so much left to be done, but I feel like this blog admirably emphasizes the importance of equality through the lens of politics.
